Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)

Alpha Hydroxy Acids are a family of naturally occurring mild acids that work as exfoliants. By speeding up the skin’s own natural shedding process (which slows down as we age), they encourage the skin to slough off dead cells, allowing newer ones to reach the surface more quickly and evenly. Glycolic acid, the AHA of choice, is a discriminatory exfoliator, as it only affects the dead cells.

Formulation

  • Hydroquinone, one of the most effective skin-bleaching agents, is used to lighten areas of darkened skin. This gel contains 2% hydroquinone.
  • Glycolic acid is the AHA of choice. Its small molecular size makes it effective in removing the build-up of dead cells on the surface of the skin. This gel contains 10% glycolic acid, the highest allowed, and an ideal pH for better results.

Tips

If you use the HQ Lightening family, avoid sun exposure; always wear a sunscreen, such as NeoStrata's Oil Free Anti-Aging Sunscreen Lotion. UVA and UVB rays will cause hyperpigmentation to reappear, even after a successful treatment.
